Prenatal Yoga Center Podcast

I just listened to Birth Kweens podcast and they had Deb Flashenberg on talking about prenatal yoga and pelvic floor/body health in pregnancy. That directed me to her own podcast and Deb’s website, www.prenatalyogacenter.com

Deb’s approach to mothers all over the world about their unique bodies during and after pregnancy really resounded with me. She spreads her knowledge and experience with yoga teachers and mothers through practices that put mothers in touch with their body’s needs. She shares how mental, emotional and physical aspects of mothers during pregnancy are interconnected so working on one aspect affects the others and can be really noticeable in labor.

Prenatal yoga is so important to not just adjust regular asana poses for the pregnant body, but for the hormonal, emotional and mental changes that are occurring in that particular mother. Private yoga instruction can wonderfully touch on all that is going on with a mother’s body.

I also most appreciate Deb stressing that pelvic floor exercises and kegels are not what a lot of mothers need in pregnancy. Most muscles in the pelvic floor and pelvic area need to be lengthened during pregnancy and it takes a lot of relaxation to do so.

I love working with pregnant women because each woman and each pregnancy is so unique. Sharing breathing and yoga practices that women can use in their everyday lives is my passion!
