What is a Doula? And Do You Need One?
Thanks New York Times for this article about doulas. This article is a great synopsis of what a doula does and does not do. I appreciate the part about finding a doula that a mother-to-be innately trusts. In working with clients, I see first hand how important it is for a birthing woman to feel safe with the continual presence of me with her through perhaps the most intimate and intense part of her life. It is important for birthing mother emotionally, as well as physically being able to open and allow baby to move and birth.
Every study that has been conducted about doulas (or continuous labor support person) has shown so many benefits, but perhaps more importantly, no negative effects to birthing mothers and babies.
