Forward leaning Inversions in Pregnancy

Spinning Babies is a wonderful resource for practical ways you can help in repositioning your baby and hopefully feel better in your new body while pregnant and after. One of my favorite poses is the forward leaning inversion. Late in pregnancy forward leaning inversions can be intense, but good news is that there are ways to modify and only a few seconds in this position helps relieve tendons and ligaments. Here is a lengthy, yet so informative and easy to read page on what, why, how and who might benefit from doing forward leaning inversions.

I definitely recommend getting someone to assist you and going slow to get into the position, especially the first few times you do it. :)

This pose is not the same thing as downward facing dog in yoga. Downward dog inversion can be wonderful for some but it doesn’t seem to release the utero-sacral ligaments and is more of an exercise and stretch. Read more about that here.
